We exist in a busy, busy world. So many people and things demand our attention. We can feel like we are stuck on the merry go round and just can not get off.
Our goals, hopes and dreams get set aside because we can never find our way to the bottom of that never ending to list.
Well it’s time to STOP.
STOP adding to the list.
STOP taking on other peoples stuff.
STOP wasting time doing trivial stuff
STOP getting caught up in the bulldust and the drama.
STOP saying yes to everything.
I read this quote from Warren Buffet a few years ago – “the difference between successful people and VERY successful people is very successful people say NO to almost everything” and decided to have a year of saying NO and the results just blew me away. As a keynote speaker, its easy to get caught up in saying yes to every opportunity to present your ideas, but saying No helped me focus on my target market. As a leader its easy to get caught up saying yes to exploring ideas and opportunities but when you say No, you find that you will execute better on the ideas and opportunities you already have.
We often think that motivation is directly related to getting more done, but saying NO can be very motivating. I found I had more time, got heaps more done, was less stressed, more focussed and my to do list disappeared. Now I did say yes to some things but only when someone presented a good strong argument for why I should say yes. Most of the people I said NO to just never gave it another try.
So instead of creating a TO DO list, try creating a STOP DOING list and crossing those things off.
I bet you’ll be glad you did
