How full is your bucket?
We all start each day, week, month, year, life with a certain amount of energy and enthusiasm. This is our energy bucket or what I like to call our MOJO.
Our performance and results in Business, leadership, and Life are directly related to how much MOJO you have or how full your energy bucket is.
If you’re feeling flat, lost, and lethargic. There are holes in your bucket.
If you are not making progress, growing, and stepping up. There are holes in your bucket.
If others are passing you by and getting better results. There are holes in your bucket.
You need to fix these holes (I’m going to tell you how below) if you want to outperform your competitors. If you want to get results you never imagined and if you want to Play a Bigger Game, you need to find the leaks and fix them fast.
The good news is, everyone has holes in their buckets, even the highest performers. The peak performers are just much faster at noticing the leaks and getting them fixed, fast.
The 5 most common holes in your MOJO bucket are likely to be the ones below.
As you read each one, give yourself a score out of 10.
10 = solid, no hole
5 = leaking consistently (dripping)
1 = water is pouring out the hole constantly
If you score less than 45, you have bad bucket problems 🙂
1. ENERGY – You don’t get enough good solid sleep. You don’t eat right, consuming way too much energy-draining junk or you don’t get enough exercise. All of these are simple enough to fix, but it’s difficult to fix all 3 at once (even though they all relate to each other) My advice is to start with eating, then exercise then sleep and you will have more energy in no time.
2. TIME – you spend too much time doing things that don’t matter. Too much television, too much social media, too much phone time, and too many distractions. Everyone gets 24 hours in a day, peak performers get the most out of that 24 hours. Get yourself a diary and track how you spend your time for a week. You will be surprised just how much gets wasted.
3. FOCUS – you have no clear vision of what you want to achieve, no clear goals and if you do, you have no plan to make them happen. You should have a clear set of LIFETIME GOALS, 3-year Goals, 12-month goals, 90-day goals, and a weekly and daily action plan to make those goals a reality one small step at a time.
4. DREAM STEALERS – Spending too much time with energy sappers, people that take up your time and energy but give you nothing in return. You are the sum of the people you spend the most time with. It might be time to find some new connections, some new people to hang out with, people that lift you up and push you forward, people that help make your hopes and dreams a reality rather than walk all over them.
5. GRIT – In a world gone soft, we often do not stick at things long enough to see the results. we get shiny object syndrome and shift from one idea or project to another, never completely committing to or finishing anything. It has been proven that GRIT is far more powerful when it comes to getting great results than intelligence. There are plenty of clever people who achieve very little. So, decide what you are going to do, by when and exactly how, and then let nothing get in the way of making it happen.
3 WAYS to WIN THIS WEEK
1. Identify where the leaks are in your bucket. What saps your energy, slows your progress and gets in the way of your greatness?
2. Choose one leak to work on this week. Map out how you will fix it. What needs to change. then make the changes and measure the progress (Does the hole still leak?)
3. Sometimes we can’t see the holes in our bucket. So ask someone else. Get a coach or mentor. Even Ash Barty had coaches and mentors sitting in the stands when she won Wimbledon this week, helping her see the holes in the bucket and helping her plug them so she could win.
As you fix the leaks in your bucket, your energy grows, your MOJO multiplies and before you know it, you are making massive progress and getting results you never imagined!
FINAL THOUGHT
Are you someone that fills others’ buckets, gives them energy, lifts their confidence, and helps them grow? Or are you someone that tips the bucket over, pokes holes in it, and makes it impossible for people to find their MOJO when you’re around?
