I have had the privilege of working with thousands of people across the globe, helping them ‘Play a Bigger Game’ by smashing their goals. It’s fun, it’s rewarding, it’s exciting and I absolutely love it. Part of the reason I love it is I also get an insight to what stops people getting things done or getting ahead.
So what makes one person able to permanently lose 10kgs and another ride the ‘loose it – find it’ cycle?
What makes one person able to become financially secure and another continue to live pay check to pay check?
How is it that one person can find great career opportunities one after the other, while their friends are stuck in the same dead-end job year after year?
It is actually simpler than you think.
EXCUSES
Successful people don’t make them. They don’t find a reason to not go to the gym once they have committed – “it’s too cold, I’m tired, I’ll do an extra session next week”
Sound familiar? They just don’t do that.
They don’t spend money they don’t have, they stick to their saving plans, they run to a budget. Not, “I deserve to spend a few dollars on myself, I can save it next week, $20 won’t make a difference”.
Is that you?
They turn up at work, they put in an effort, they make themselves indispensable so that when opportunities show up they are the one that gets offered them. Not, “I party so hard I come to work for a rest, I can’t wait to get out of here, the guys are all idiots…”
Can you identify with that?
If you are not getting what you want in life it’s because of the bullshit reasons you give yourself to stop doing what you should be doing to get ahead. That’s why you’re average, because you’re doing the stuff the average person does – THROWING IN THE TOWEL WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH, telling yourself little stories about why giving up is ok.
Here’s how you fix it. Have a NO EXCUSES POLICY. Decide, commit, do. That’s it, that’s the basic difference between you and the people who are a success. They do what they say their going to do, without fail every single time, no excuses. That’s why they get ahead.
