Now is your greatest opportunity for reinvention
Former US President, John F Kennedy, famously said: “The Chinese use two brush strokes to write the word ‘crisis.’ One brush stroke stands for danger: the other for opportunity. In a crisis, be aware of the danger, but recognise the opportunity.” The opportunity to reset, review and start out anew.
As recovery settles in, it’s time to reinvent yourself as a better version of you, to fill the gaps and emphasise the things you’re great at. It’s time to decide where you want to go, what you want to do, and then chart a path in that direction.
As the door on danger slowly closes, the door of opportunity does also, and before long you’ll find yourself facing ground hog day, like the last few months have never happened. And that would be a waste of a perfectly not so good crisis.
Here are 5 tips to help you reinvent yourself
Review – your strengths and weaknesses – Learn to work to your strengths and outsource your weaknesses.
Redesign – Outline who you really want to be, how you really want to work, what impact and influence you want to have.
Reinvent – What are the skills and abilities you will need to develop or acquire for the new, better version of you?
Redirect – Pivot in the new direction, create a new vision, share it with others so they can understand and support you.
Restart – Hit the go button on your new thinking, acting and behaving so that you get extraordinary results.
